Malia M. Cohen (born December 16, 1977)[1] is an American politician serving as the 33rd Controller of California since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, Cohen previously served as Chair of the California State Board of Equalization from the 2nd district from 2019 to 2023 and as President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisorsfrom District 10 from 2011 to 2019.
She is the sixth African American to hold statewide office following Wilson Riles, Mervyn Dymally, Tony Thurmond, Shirley Weber and Laphonza Butler.

Her accomplishments include getting the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) published closer to its due date. Lead a task force that was convened by court order following a massive fraud scheme involving charter schools in San Diego. Failed to deliver on a 2022 campaign promise to audit homeless funds and other agencies.
In her 2022 campaign, questions were raised when her campaign committee failed to file proper returns. She raised some democratic concerns by appointing a Republican to chair the State Board of Equalization. Narrowly won her 2022 campaign..
