No Kings IV is coming to Newport Beach October 17 at our usual time of 10-12 and our usual location PCH and Jamboree. This will be a sidewalk rally, similar to our past No Kings events. We encourage participants to register here. The tag line for this event is “Vote Early” as the goal is to encourage people to vote sooner rather than later so they don’t get distracted and forget or don’t get impacted by any last-minute shenanigans the Administration and their supporters try to pull to disrupt the election. The risk of significant disruptions in our area is low but there are important, contested races on the ballot and getting the results we want depends on a high turnout so use this event to cast your own ballot ASAP and encourage like-minded friends to cast theirs as well.
Messaging
In addition to those voting goals, this is another opportunity to show our community how we feel about things as we have in past No Kings events with signs and chants. The No Kings organization is non-partisan, so the organizers won’t be telling you how to vote. But if you, as a participant, want to make your views known with signs like “Trump is an Ass” or “Republican Congressmen are sniveling lickspittle’s,” nobody will stop you.
Safety Volunteers Needed
We’ve not had any serious confrontations or other emergencies during past events, but the No Kings organization wants us to have safety marshals on hand just in case. For us, the biggest safety risk is crossing the busy intersection. We could use some volunteers to act as crossing-guards. We will provide safety vests, hand-held stop signs and radios to our safety marshals. This is a serious, full-time commitment during the event that will not permit you carry your own sign or chat with friends but if you would like to do your part in keeping people safe, please email us at [email protected].
Voting March
At the end of our event, about 11:30, we will be organizing a march to our nearest voting drop-box location at the Newport Beach Public Library, led by two bagpipers. The distance of the march is about 1.2 miles
